Brief Bio
Ousssama Hamid is a Research Fellow in Machine Learning for Data Analysis at the University of Nottingham (School of Computer Science) in the United Kingdom (UK). He is also an Accredited Researcher at the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in London, UK, a member of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Technical Committee on Soft Computing and a member of the European Institute for Systems and Technologies, Control and Communications (INSTICC). In 2011, Oussama received a doctoral degree in Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Magdeburg (Germany) for his research on the Role of Temporal Context in Human Reinforcement Learning. Since 2003, Dr. Hamid has been investigating both theoretical and methodological aspects of Human-Machine Interaction, Neural Network Functions, Cognitive Systems and Data Analytics. Dr. Hamid has published his research findings in several European and international refereed journals and conferences.


Progress in artificial intelligence (AI) is impressive, exciting and inevitable. A much celebrated approach in the current hype of AI is deep learning which is a soft computing technique rooted in artificial neural networks. Domains in which soft computing techniques have the potential to advance artificial intelligence and affect the future of human-machine coexistence include, for example, image processing, pattern recognition, cognitive robotics, decision making, transportation, medical and financial applications.  

This Special Session discusses the most recent advances in soft computing techniques from a cross-disciplinary perspective, encompassing theory, analysis, methods and applications. Contributions are solicited in all aspects of evolutionary, fuzzy, neural, and cognitive computations.
